HOISINGTON — Smoky Valley scored 22 runs to surprise Hoisington's softball team 9-7 and 13-7 in a Central Kansas League twin bill May 7.

The Vikings (12-10, 8-8 CKL) dropped the third-place Cardinals to 14-10, 10-6 CKL.

SMOKY VALLEY 9, HOISINGTON 7 (G1) — The Vikings snapped a 7-7 seventh-inning tie when Rylie Neywick's single scored Grace Dudley and Kenzley Haxton with two out.

The Cardinals rallied from a 6-2 deficit for a 7-7 tie.

Brynn Tarlton's fourth-inning double scored Avery Riese and Macie Strong. Kelsi Maier scored on Myah Frederking's fifth-inning single. Tarlton scored on Reese Vaughn's groundout. Marly Brewer scored on a passed ball for a 7-7 tie.

Cardinal pitcher Tarlton (8-6, 3.82 ERA) struck out nine Vikings.

SMOKY VALLEY 13, HOISINGTON 7 (G2) — Smoky Valley made Hoisington pay for nine errors that handed the Vikings eight unearned runs off Hoisington's trio of pitchers.

Maier (.325) led the Cardinals with a double and three runs batted home. Brewer (.377) delivered a pair of runs batted in. Reese Aylward (.361) added an RBI.

Viking Kate Griffin doubled twice and drove home three runs. Neywick scored three runs and drove in three runs with three hits.
