PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ashton Gibbs scored 18 points and Pittsburgh beat Duquesne for the 11th straight time in the annual City Game.
Dante Taylor added 15 points and Lamar Patterson scored 10 for the Panthers (6-1), who dominated the glass to overcome serious turnover problems.
Sean Johnson led Duquesne (4-3) with 19 points.
Pitt outrebounded the Dukes 39-15 to offset 23 turnovers. The Panthers never trailed over the game’s final 30 minutes but struggled putting Duquesne away.
Each time the Dukes drew close, Gibbs would answer with a big shot, including consecutive 3-pointers during a 14-6 run midway through the second half that gave Pitt some needed breathing room.
No. 25 TEXAS A&M 56, ALCORN ST. 44
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Ray Turner scored 16 points and Texas A&M overcame a sleepy start and awful shooting for its 64th consecutive nonconference home win.
David Loubeau added 14 points and Naji Hibbert had eight rebounds for the Aggies (5-1).
KeDorian Sullivan led the Braves (1-6) with 11 points and eight rebounds.
A&M missed all 17 of its 3-point attempts. The Aggies outscored Alcorn State 20-2 on the fast break, and 42-26 in the paint.
A&M shot only 40.3 percent (25 of 62) for the game, while Alcorn was at 32.7 percent (18 of 55).
