CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has announced that the son of former Tar Heels football coach Butch Davis is transferring to a junior college.
In a release Wednesday, the university announced that quarterback Drew Davis is headed to Coffeyville Community College.
Davis redshirted last season as a walk-on for the Tar Heels. He threw for 3,525 yards and 30 touchdowns in 11 games as a senior in 2011 at East Chapel Hill High School for coach Bill Renner — the father of current UNC starter Bryn Renner.
UNC fired Butch Davis days before preseason practice started in 2011 amid an NCAA investigation into improper benefits and academic misconduct.
Current UNC coach Larry Fedora says he wishes Drew Davis “nothing but the best of luck.”
