CLEVELAND— Royals manager Ned Yost has no explanation for why Eric Hosmer wears out the Indians.
“I don’t know. Go ask him,” Yost said, shrugging his shoulders after Hosmer had three more hits, a go-ahead homer and two RBIs in Kansas City’s 2-1 win over Cleveland on Tuesday night.
“I mean, he’s a good player,” Yost said. “He’ll hit like that against some teams.”
Hosmer is now 19-for-45 (.422) against Cleveland with five homers and 19 RBIs -- no one has more RBIs against the Tribe this year.
“I don’t know why,” Hosmer said. “I guess I see the ball well against them. They have a good staff.
“I’ve been swinging the bat well against these guys. Just trying to be aggressive and not miss pitches.”
Hosmer wasn’t missing many pitches on Tuesday. He singled in Cain from third base in the fourth inning.
Then in the ninth with two out and a 3-2 count, Hosmer scorched a Trevor Bauer curve into the right-field seats for his 11th homer of the season.
“I was just trying to see a ball in the zone and go the other way, and I think that kept me on the breaking ball,” Hosmer said. “He was doing a good job of mixing all night. He threw fastballs, cutters, sliders, so you couldn’t sit on one pitch.
“But it’s a big win for us.”
