SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse has suspended defensive tackle Andrew Lewis and linebacker Brice Hawkes for the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium for violating team rules.
The Orange are preparing to play Kansas State on Dec. 30..
Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone announced the suspensions Wednesday but declined to elaborate.
A defensive tackle and two-year starter, Lewis had 28 tackles, including 4½ for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble. The suspension effectively ends his Syracuse career.
Hawkes, a linebacker, played in 11 of 12 games, primarily on special teams.
Syracuse has now lost six players, including senior punter Rob Long, who is recovering from brain surgery., in the past two weeks.
