A new treatment for dry eyes is available at 10th Street Eyecare Center in Great Bend.

The 10th Street Eyecare Center recently announced the addition of a new technology that allows them to offer a quick and painless treatment option for patients who suffer from dry eyes. The new MiBoFlo Thermoflo® equipment allows the doctors and staff at the locally owned optometry practice to provide lasting relief for symptoms that would otherwise only be treated temporarily.

“When people are using rewetting drops, or artificial tears, that can treat the symptoms but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem,” Dr. Sarah Stueder said. “For a lot of people, the root of the problem can be clogged meibomian glands, or the oil glands that line your eyelids. So what Miboflo does is it actually heats up the oil and can unclog the oil glands.”

MiBoFlo Thermoflo uses a proprietary thermoelectric heat pump operated by a technician. The technician uses a small metal paddle and gel to gently massage the eyelid to warm the oil glands and eliminate any blockages. Patients utilizing this new treatment can expect three 10 to 15 minute sessions, with a potential maintenance plan afterward.

“Common symptoms of dry eyes are red eyes, sandy feeling eyes and watering eyes,” Dr. Stueder said. “Anyone interested in this new treatment can learn more on our website (www.10thstreeteyecare.com), or we’d be happy to set up an appointment to visit with you about your symptoms and see if this is a good fit for you.”
