A vehicle caused significant damage to a home, garage, and the schoolyard at Lincoln Elementary in the early morning hours Wednesday and crashed into a parked vehicle in a residential driveway on Navajo Road.

At approximately 4:20 a.m., the vehicle entered the Lincoln Elementary schoolyard from Rosewood Drive tearing through the chain link fence on the Rosewood Drive side of the property. The vehicle crossed through the grounds, exiting through the chain link fence on the opposite side before continuing onto Navajo Road. The vehicle then struck a fence in the residential area before colliding with a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home at 5604 Navajo Road. The impact sent the vehicle spinning into the garage, where it came to rest inside.

The homeowner said the vehicle could have ended up in her child’s bedroom, had it not first struck her car parked in the driveway.

Witnesses said two occupants fled the scene on foot following the crash. A third occupant was discovered lying in the front yard by neighbors and was transported to a local hospital. The extent of that individual’s injuries remains unknown at this time.

The homeowner stated that no one inside the home was injured. The homeowner’s vehicle was totaled as a result of the crash, and the home and garage at 5604 Navajo Road sustained structural damage. Both chain link fences at Lincoln Elementary were also damaged.

Crews with Quality Design Construction were on scene working to secure the garage structure Wednesday morning.

The Great Bend Police Department responded to the scene and is investigating the incident. The Tribune reached out to the department for comment but did not receive a response.
