Maggie Myers has been caring for patients for only a short time at St. Rose Health Center and already she has treated a wide range of conditions.

          Myers, a board-certified family nurse practitioner, recently joined the St. Rose Family Medicine & Urgent Care team; she treats patients only in Urgent Care.

          In her first few weeks, she has helped patients with sinus problems, influenza, deep vein thrombosis, chest pain, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, fractures and sprains – to name a few.

          As an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), Myers said she “is trained to assess and treat patients, order lab work and imaging, and write prescriptions. An APRN is a registered nurse that has gone on to graduate school to learn management of patients with a vast variety of diseases and injuries.”

          Myers earned an associate nursing degree in 1986 at Hutchinson Community College and bachelor’s of nursing in 1996 at Kansas Newman College at Wichita.

          She obtained her master’s of nursing in 2003 at Newman University at Wichita and her post-master’s certificate as a family nurse practitioner in 2013 at Fort Hays State University.

          Throughout these years of advanced education, Myers also completed more than a dozen preceptorships. These include emergency medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, family medicine, internal medicine, cardiovascular, endocrinology, dermatology, neurology and orthopedics.

          “I am pleased to be using my experience to help patients and their families at St. Rose,” Myers commented. “This is a good, experienced team in Urgent Care. They are patient-focused, which is the most important thing.”

          Urgent Care hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

          Myers comes to St. Rose from Harper Hospital and Clinic in Harper, Ks, where she served as a family nurse practitioner. She has worked in a number of other health-care settings in Kansas too.

          “I am glad to be in Great Bend,” she said. “It is a nice-sized community and I appreciate the friendliness of the people here.

          “All of us are eager for the new St. Rose facility to open later this spring,” she added.

          Myers was raised in California and has lived in Kansas since 1974. She has four grown daughters and 11 grandchildren.
