The Fieldhouse, a new athletic training facility located at 2817 9th Street in Great Bend, recently celebrated its grand opening with a Chamber ribbon cutting ceremony in early December. The converted warehouse has been totally renovated to include a full hardwood basketball court, two batting cages, over 10,000 square feet of turf area, an expansive strength and conditioning area, as well as a business wing with office space for small businesses.
“Our vision for this facility is to create a fun, safe place where student athletes can train and improve their skills all year round,” says owner Julie Spray. “In addition to facilitating a few small businesses in our facility, we can also rent space for camps, clinics, team practices, and athletic events.”
One of the small businesses operating from The Fieldhouse is Kansas Elevate, a basketball training program founded by Chad Friess in 2014. Chad grew up in Great Bend, and played four years of college basketball before launching the program that now serves more than 60 kids. “Kansas Elevate gives athletes a better foundation to play basketball through skills and agility training,” Friess says. “Any athlete wanting to raise their game by committing to the process will see incredible results.”
Another small business operating from The Fieldhouse is Elite Fitness & Athletic Performance, founded by Matt Edwards. Originally from Arkansas, Matt played four years of college football while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. “I can work with both students and adults to provide instruction in strength and conditioning to help set and achieve athletic and fitness goals,” Edwards says. “Elite Fitness also facilitates athletic training events for students of all ages.”
Finally, the business wing of The Fieldhouse features several offices for small businesses to lease at affordable rates. The first business tenant to occupy space in this wing is Marketing Maven Consulting, owned by Rachel Mawhirter. With more space available, owner Julie Spray encourages interested small business owners to contact her about rental opportunities.
“We want to make an impact on the youth in this community, and our facility is based on faith and family,” Spray says. “Our team will strive to develop lifelong character and leadership skills through athletics.”
