SALINA — Sunflower Bank partnered with Yellow Ribbon Fund for the last three months of 2014 to raise funds and awareness for injured service members and their families. Sunflower had a goal to raise $50,000.
Mollie Carter, president and chief executive officer at Sunflower Bank, said the goal was surpassed with the help of customers, who contributed nearly $6,000. Sunflower Bank then matched the $6,000 contribution for a $62,000 donation to YRF.
“At Sunflower Bank we are committed to the communities we serve. Returning service members and their families are an important group of citizens within our communities, and we are fortunate to be in a position where we could raise both funds for and awareness of the Yellow Ribbon Fund,” said Carter.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished, which is why we celebrated with an event to honor our veterans and present a $62,000 check on behalf of our associates and customers to Yellow Ribbon Fund.”
Sunflower Bank hosted an event to mark the celebration, with many past and present military personnel in attendance. Speakers included Linda Herrick, a YRF recipient, Ralph Compton, a YRF ambassador, along with Carter and Mark Robbins, executive director of Yellow Ribbon Fund. The event was held at Sunflower Bank’s headquarters in Salina.
“We were thrilled to partner with Sunflower Bank and its customers to fund efforts to help fill gaps in services for injured veterans and families,” said Robbins. “Since many of today’s injured veterans and their families will need the support of their communities for years after they leave the hospital, Yellow Ribbon Fund is extending its services to serve hometowns across the country including Kansas, Colorado and Missouri. Sunflower’s very generous donation will be a great help.”
The Yellow Ribbon Fund provides a continuum of support to injured service members and their families, from the hospital to their hometowns.
