Sunflower Diversified Services recently combined two events that raised money for and awareness about its many programs that serve people with developmental disabilities and delays.

The 20th Annual Sunflower Pancake Feed served 470 plates on March 30 when the winner of the Chevy Trailblazer ACTIV drawing was announced.

Jason Burhenn, a Great Bend native, won the vehicle. 

“A current Wichita resident, Jason purchased the raffle tickets online after a friend shared with him our Facebook post about the chance to win a new vehicle,” said Cody Harris, Sunflower director of planned giving and community support. “He was super excited and in disbelief when we called him with the news.”

Sunflower sold more than 2,700 Chevy raffle tickets that represented people from more than 30 states and raised more than $26,000.

“This was a successful event and we look forward to doing it again in two years,” Harris said. “We appreciate everyone who came out for pancakes and/or bought tickets for the drawing. They are all winners to us.

“Private donations are crucial to Sunflower and the people we serve,” he continued. “They help us enhance programs to accommodate our neighbors in central Kansas who need a helping hand.”

Sunflower, a non-profit agency, serves infants, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties. It is in its 58th year.
