Great Bend High School prom announced
Hoisington City 4-25-23
Hoisington City Council members discuss vacancies on the council at Monday’s meeting.

Juniors and graduating seniors at Great Bend High School will have an outdoor prom from 8-11 p.m. Friday, July 10, in Jack Kilby Square, according to members of a group of private sponsors. The group is seeking adult volunteers and raising money for a deejay, said Deby Newsome. Anyone interested may contact her by calling 620-786-4126.

Parents from the after-prom committee offered a drive-thru event in May, allowing students to choose one of the many “door prizes” that normally would have been given away at drawings. Choices included Bluetooth speakers, televisions, microwave ovens and gift cards.

Assistant Principal Randy Wetzel said GBHS is not a sponsor of the prom.

“While we support efforts to celebrate out students, we at Great Bend High School are unable to sponsor, produce or host such an event,” he said. “We are encouraged by the community support and recognition of our outstanding students. But right now at GBHS, we are focused on recognizing the accomplishments of our seniors at the graduation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, June 27, at GBHS Memorial Stadium.” The graduation ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m.
