Lonnie D. and Alberta M. Wright will celebrate their 70th anniversary on Aug. 5, with a card shower.
Alberta M. Fleske and Lonnie D. Wright were united in marriage on Aug. 5, 1945, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, formerly near Albert, now at the Barton County Historical Society Museum. Alberta was born on the homestead of her grandparents near Albert and attended Great Bend High School and Kansas State University. Lonnie was born in rural south central Texas. After attending high school in North Platte, Neb. he joined the Army Air Force and fought in the South Pacific. He is a Pearl Harbor survivor and decorated combat veteran. He received the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and six other Campaign Ribbons. After homesteading and living 10 years near Wasilla, Alaska. they returned to the family farm in 1960. He was a farmer and stockman and she was a homemaker. They moved to Great Bend several years ago and enjoy the company of close neighbors.
The couple has two children, Dr Alvin J. Wright and wife Cindy of Puyallup, Wash. and John L. Wright and wife Pam of Castle Rock, Colo.; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Rob Allen of Oceanside, Calif., David and Lenka Wright of San Jose, Calif., Jeff and Erica Wright of Renton, Wash. and Alicia Abby, Amy and Mark Arias, and Jonathan Wright of Castle Rock, Colo.; and seven great-grandchildren, Jackson and Oliver Allen of Oceanside, Calif. Tabitha Wright of San Jose, Calif., Naomi Wright of Renton, Wash., Addison Abby and twins Kaiya and Aspen Arias of Castle Rock, Colo.
