Members and guests of the Great Bend American Legion are again invited to say, “Aloha!” and attend the Legion Auxiliary’s 10th annual Hawaiian Luau Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 1011 Kansas Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. and a dance at 8 p.m.
After the ninth annual luau in 2019, the fundraiser skipped a year because of the pandemic. Members are excited to be back this year raising money for veterans organizations and for the Golden Plains Quilts of Valor group, whose members make unique commemorative quilts for area veterans.
Rick Munsch is cooking the smoked ribs, pulled pork and chicken. Scalloped potatoes, baked beans and other sides will be furnished by the Auxiliary.
Tickets are $20 at the door for food and dance but can be purchased ahead of time for $15 from Auxiliary members or when the American Legion is open, after 6 p.m. daily.
There will be a live auction before the dance. The Locals band starts to play at 8 p.m.
A silent auction will start when the doors open.
The Golden Plains Quilts of Valor group is now selling tickets for its annual quilt raffle that runs through Nov. 26. Tickets are available from members of the quilting group and can also be purchased at the luau.
