Beta Sigma Phi celebrates Founder’s Day

On the 91st anniversary of the founding of Beta Sigma Phi, members of the Preceptor Pi Chapter enjoyed a catered meal and program hosted by their sorority sisters in the Xi Delta Upsilon Chapter on Tuesday, April 26, at the First Congregational Church. It was announced the theme for 2022-23 is “Friends at Your Fingertips.”  

Judy Krebaum, President of the Preceptor Pi Chapter, was honored as her Chapter’s Woman of the Year. Judy pledged Beta Sigma Phi in October, 1973. The members of Xi Delta Upsilon were acknowledged as Sisters of the Year. 

The first Beta Sigma Phi chapter was founded in Abilene, in 1931, by Walter W. Ross and has grown to over 180,000 members worldwide. Beta 

Sigma Phi is the largest organization of its kind in the world providing the social, cultural, and civic enrichment of its members. Membership is made up of women of all ages; usually beginning in their 20s or 30s and staying active for their entire lives, building friendships that last a lifetime. The motto of the organization is Life, Learning and Friendship.  

Preceptor Pi’s Ways and Means projects (serving at receptions as Reception Sisters) have allowed members to be generous in their service projects. Some projects include: donations to Stuff the Bus, the Food Bank, the First Christian Church Youth Group and the Farmer’s Bank & Trust Christmas Angel Tree. Chapter members also purchased Christmas gifts for three veterans through the American Legion Christmas Tree and continue to donate fruit twice monthly for the USD 428 Fruit Filler Backpack Project. 

In keeping with the learning part of the motto, at every meeting a member offers a program. Through this past year, members learned about a variety of things, from inventors from Kansas to the history of brooches; from the importance of Wetlands to the many uses for peanut butter. 

And, of course, there is time for friendship and fun at the meetings and socials. Several of the women in the Chapter have been Beta Sigma Phi members for almost 50 years and many have been together in the Chapter for over 25 years.
