Bernice P. Widener of Hudson, will celebrate her 90th birthday with a card shower.
Bernice was born on Nov. 8, 1921, to Henry and Della DeYoung in Prairie View. The family moved to Palco when she was a young girl. On May 11, 1943, she married Austin C. Widener, who was serving in the United States Army during World War II. He was discharged in 1944 after his father’s death. The couple moved to the Widener family farm in the Hudson area and were involved in grain farming, cattle, and oil. He died on Oct. 14, 2000.
She has four children, A. Lee and Betty Widener of Perry, Okla., Gayla and Don Asher and Monte and Rachelle Widener, all of Ellinwood, and Keith and LaDonna Widener of Hudson; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Her siblings are Verda Guthrie and Ila Parr, both of Great Bend, and Milfred DeYoung of Palco.
