Duayne (Pete) Charles will celebrate his 90th birthday with a Come and Go card reception from 6-8 p.m. on June 25, at the Great Bend VFW.
Duayne was born on June 23, 1926, to William and Beta (Trauer) Charles in rural Heizer. He was a 1st Sergeant in the Army, serving in Italy, 10th Mountain Division during World War II. He then served with the 439th Engineers in Korea. He was one of the five members of the first paid Great Bend Fire Department and also worked in the water well industry. He has two sons, Richard and Duayne Jr.
