Laverne Lessor of Great Bend will celebrate his 80th birthday with a family dinner followed by a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 27, at the Senior Center. No gifts are requested.
Laverne was born on April 27, 1934, to Emerson and Helen Lessor, who were farmers in Trego County. On April 17, 1971 he married Ann Schmeidler Hertel. Their children are Gene Sloan of Satanta, Jackie and Sterling Hall of Sublette, Pam Outten of San Antonio, Texas, Dan and Dort Hertel of Great Bend, Becky and Eldred Maresch of Hoisington, Duane and Rhonda Hertel of Derby, Anita and Craig Curtis, Myra and Mark Niederee, and Aaron and Sandy Lessor, all of Wichita, and Kyle and Paige Lessor of Wichita Falls, Texas. They have 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was involved in education for 41 years, 37 of those years as Principal of Lincoln Elementary School. After retirement he spent several years testing for the U.S. Department of Education and doing volunteer work.
