Book Nook: Kansas author writes gooey whodunit

Rob Munden is shown with his debut novel.

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Next week have the honor of hosting Kansas author and playwright Rob Munden, who will be here to hold a signing for his debut novel, “Peanut Butter Pickleball and Murder.”

This thriller follows the antics of a retired detective and his next-door nemesis, who team up to find the killer responsible for taking the life of a treasured member of their community. Stop by the library at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, to meet Rob and pick up a copy of his book.

The following day on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m., we will be presenting this month’s Third Thursday Speaker, Richard C. Lartz II, executive director of the Barton County Historical Society Village and Museum. Richard will be speaking about James Fugate, a teamster on the Santa Fe Trail who settled in Great Bend afterward. Fugate’s account was originally included in the Heart of the New Kansas pamphlet that was made for boosterism of Great Bend in 1880, and has been reproduced in other publications discussing the Santa Fe Trail since then. The presentation will also show how historians interrogate sources and what sources can be used to examine historical accounts. This program is open to all ages.

The library invites tweens, teens, and adults (4th grade and older) to join us for Life-Size CLUE on Friday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. A terrible tragedy has taken place at the Boddy Estate! Play as one of the iconic characters from the classic board game and make your way through the library. Follow the clues and take notes to figure out who committed the crime. Who will be the first to solve the case? This is an after-hours event with an exclusive guest list, so be sure to RSVP on our website by Wednesday, Nov. 16, to reserve your spot for the evening!

We have more events coming up next week than we can include in just one article, so to find details on programs such as YOU Day Tuesday, Teen Café, Open Book Club, and more, you can visit our Facebook page and our website, greatbendpl.info.
