Celebrate participation in Walk Kansas with Wise Bucks Luncheon
Donna Krug clr

The 2017 Walk Kansas campaign is winding down. The roller coaster temperatures and windy days have made this eight week fitness challenge just that; a challenge! I have tried to bike as much as I could to work and local meetings the past few weeks. A highlight of the month was completing the Earth Day bike ride put on by the Heartland Center. Riding out to Heartland Farms and back on a chilly Saturday morning felt great!
We ended up with just under 200 signed up for the Walk KS program; that translates to 32 teams! I have enlisted the help of my Family & Consumer Science Program Development Committee to assist with the “Wise Bucks Luncheon” which is set for this Wednesday, May 3, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th Street. We will be ready to serve by a little before noon and will keep the food hot until 1:15 p.m. or so to accommodate the various lunch hours’ people have. This luncheon is free to anyone who has signed up and paid their registration for the Walk KS program, however I do need an RSVP no later than tomorrow at noon from those who plan to participate so that we can plan for food.
The menu will consist of a baked potato bar along with dessert and beverage choices. Participants will be given a set amount of play money and the choices they make cost different amounts based on the fat, sodium, and sugar content of each menu item. I will share information with participants to help them understand the importance of making healthy choices.
Give our office a call or e-mail Brenda or me by Monday at noon, so your name can be added to the luncheon participants. I hope to see you Wednesday!
