Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! While we are at the tail end of summer already, we still have a few more fun things in store before we take a break and prepare for the fall, a season that can’t come soon enough for me, personally. Can we just skip August and go straight to October? I already have my Halloween costume picked out! I’ll be dreaming of sugar pumpkin fairies and dancing candy corn while I wait for fall to come, but in the meantime, let’s get into what will be going on at the library during the last week of July.
Starting things off with Thursday, July 25, the fabulous Luna will be here to listen to stories starting at 10:30 a.m. She will also be here at the same time on Friday. This will be your last chance to read to her this summer and rack up some more minutes for not only summer reading, but also for a chance at the National Geographic Kids Magazine subscription that will be gifted to the kid who logs the most minutes this summer with Luna.
Friday we have our last “You VS the Wild” interactive movie experience. Participants will embark on a survival adventure with Bear Grylls. From wild jungles to scorching deserts to the highest mountain peaks, it will be up to you, the audience, to decide what to do and how to make it out of each perilous adventure! On July 26, explore the desert as you help Bear comb the unforgiving landscape to find not only a cargo plane that has crash-landed in a scorching desert canyon, but also to acquire the venom of a snake, a scorpion, and a tarantula. Then Bear needs your help after he is dropped into the remote European wilderness near an old mining town. Can you help him find his way back to civilization? Find out on Friday starting at 2 p.m!
Speaking of choosing your own adventure, Tuesday will be the start of our Let’s Play Fighting Fantasy program. Join our intrepid librarians as they make their way through a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-style book that’s been turned into a video game. Vote on the choices they make and help them fight their way to victory or to their untimely demise! This adventure will be broken up into two sessions from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, and Thursday, Aug. 1. This event is for 6th graders through adults.
