Great Bend Kiwanis member Bill McKown will attend the Kiwanis International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization of individuals who want to improve their local communities. Kiwanis International celebrated its 98th anniversary recently. Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Mich. on Jan. 21, 1915. “Serving the Children of the World” is the Kiwanis slogan.
Kiwanis defining statement is “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.”
Last year Kiwanis International clubs spent more than $65 million on community service projects and members donated more than 7 million volunteer hours of service work.  The Kiwanis organization numbers more than 325,000 members in over 8500 clubs located in more than 80 countries around the world.
“It will be fun and interesting to meet Kiwanis members from all over the world,” said McKown.
“The Great Bend Kiwanis club’s primary purpose is service to local youth” according to Bill McKown. “Money raised by the annual Kiwanis Pancake Day project, was donated by the Great Bend Kiwanis to numerous local youth organizations and projects this past year.”
The Great Bend Kiwanis club meets at noon every Wednesday at Montana Mikes.  Any individual interested in joining should contact Leroy Weathers, Club President.
