The Great Bend Noon Lions Club recently donated $1,000 to earthquake/tsunami relief in Japan through the Lions Club International Foundation. The funds are part of  more than $6 million LCIF has committed to the effort, including $3 million contributed by Lions in Japan.
“I am deeply humbled by the generous outpouring of support from Lions worldwide,” said Eberhard Wirfs, LCIF chiarperson. “I am proud of you and never prouder to be a Lion.”
As a result of this local donation, the Great Bend club is now eligible to name a Melvin Jones Fellowship recipient. The fellowships are awarded to club members in honor of Melvin Jones, founder of Lions Club International.
The latest honoree will be announced at a later date.
