Barbara Lear, Worthy Matron of Golden Sheaf Chapter #226 Order of the Eastern Star, was recognized on Nov. 21, for 25 years of dedicated service to the order. The Order of the Eastern Star members are dedicated women and men who sincerely reflect the spirit of fraternal love and the desire to work together for good. It gives them the opportunity to give a part of their time to many projects that benefit mankind. The Order’s lessons are scriptural, its purposes are beneficent, and the teachings are moral. During the public presentation made by Worthy Grand Patron Francis “Pete” Peterson of Yates Center, Barbara was recognized for having served as an officer of the local chapters of which she had been a member for most of the 25 years of her membership, as well as serving at the state level a number of years. Her 25 year service pin was applied by her son, Dan Lear.
The evening’s events began with a meal of soup, sandwiches and salads, followed by the public presentation of the 25 year service pin. During the regular meeting that followed, Golden Sheaf Chapter #226 was honored by an Official Visit by Susan McGuiness, Worthy Grand Matron and Francis “Pete” Peterson, Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Kansas. Other dignitaries present were Wanda Ryan, Associate Grand Matron, Donna Low, Grand Electa, Shiela Worden, Grand Ruth and Garrie Oppitz, Associate Grand Conductress and Sondra Peterson, Escort of the Worthy Grand Patron.
Activities during the meeting included “proving” chapter with the use of staffs and the initiatory lecture of Martha, given by Sister Karlene Buechman. The program was Candy Bar Concentration, in which the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron had to guess which candy bar would be revealed from the clue given.
