Parnassus Club

The Parnassus Club met Oct. 12 at the home of Glenna Gaunt of rural Great Bend with eight members present.
The program was Puccini’s LaBoheme presented by Glenna. It was interesting to learn that Puccini composed nothing but Opera’s. This opera was not accepted by the critics of the day but those who love Operas, seem to love him and love LaBoheme. He got his start composing a cantata for church and after hearing Verdi’s Aida, was inspired to study Opera. LaBoheme means The Bohemians and is set to portray the life of artists, writers and such professions. However, in this instance it is a tragic story with the artist’s lover dying of tuberculosis.
Refreshments were served by Jeannete Shirer and Glenna.
