Boy Scout Troop #184 of Great Bend is pleased to announce the advancement of Phane Pedigo to the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 11th. Phane’s project was for the benefit of the Great Bend Humane Society. Phane held a family benefit garage sale to raise money for his project last year. Over the course of several months, he used his funds to purchase and assemble 15 elevated dog beds, plant seven trees in the visitation area, pour a concrete slab for a picnic table, design and build a waste station, and create five oversized pet portraits for the office area. In addition, he donated his remaining funds to the Humane Society to use at their discretion. A large portion of the donation was used for the spay and neuter program at the shelter. Following the Eagle Scout requirements, Pedigo enlisted the help of many volunteers in the community. This included Scout members, family, friends, Humane Society staff and numerous local businesses. After completion of his project, Pedigo was also required to pass an Eagle Scout board of review and submit all his documentation to the Quivira Council for approval. Troop #184 honored Pedigo at an Eagle Court of Honor on Oct. 5th.
Phane is the son of Brian and Carie Pedigo. Grandparents are Connie Rube and the late Jim Rube, Don and Kathy Pedigo, and Maurice and the late Marie Schwartz all of Great Bend. Phane is currently a sophomore at Great Bend High School and has been in the scouting program since he was six years of age.
