Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma presented Woman of the Year and Sister of the Year awards and installed new officers as the 2014-15 sorority year drew to a close.
The chapter honored Susan Coulson, president, as Woman of the Year and Brenda Black as Sister of the Year at the Great Bend Beta Sigma Phi Founder’s Day celebration April 28.
New officers for 2015-16, who were installed at the May 5, meeting, are Jeri Brozek, president; Lois Johnson, vice president; Rosie Luthi, treasurer; and Brenda Black, secretary.
At the chapter’s April 7, meeting, Rachel Mawhirter represented Prairie Godmothers in a program explaining the purpose of the organization – women helping women. The group has 230 members and has given 35 grants since January 2014. Each chapter member gave a donation and became part of the organization to help women in need.
On April 21, the chapter met first at Rosewood Studio and Industrial Kitchen on North Washington for a program presented by Debbie Warren, who directs projects providing gainful employment for the special needs population. Items produced at the studio include jewelry, candles, ceramics and soap. In addition, Kim Mitchell directs kitchen projects in which candies and other food items are produced.
In May, the chapter presented donations of $371 to the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation and $195 to Kans for Kids.
On May 5, Kelly Moeder from Waters True Value demonstrated how to plant flowers in decorative pots and assisted members in planting a variety of flowers in their own planter. She gave members several tips for planting. She recommended planting the flowers symmetrically in thirds.
Nine members attended Preceptor Pi’s end-of-year dinner, which took place at Pretty Boy Floyd’s in Ellsworth.
Preceptor Pi will be in charge of planning and hosting the Great Bend Beta Sigma Phi Beginning Day and Founder’s Day for 2015-16. The chapter will make plans this summer for the Aug. 25, Beginning Day Salad Supper.
