Almost daily the news shares accounts of fraud being committed. From identity theft to scams that target our older population there are some very convincing con artists out there. Don’t let your guard down or you may be the next victim.
As I have gotten involved in the Senior Health Insurance Counselor for Kansas program (SHICK) I have learned that the Senior Medical Patrol, dubbed as SMP, is a program designed to raise awareness and give you tips to avoid being scammed.
Mark your calendar for Friday, Sept. 23, and plan to come to the Great Bend Senior Center for a 1 p.m. program. Janet Boskill, the SMP/SHICK/MIPPA Regional Manager for Southwest Kansas, will be speaking about the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP), its role in the detection and prevention of Medicare Fraud and Abuse, and how Medicare fraud and other scams affect you. She will also be available to address other Medicare concerns. Janet has been with the Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK), Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, for more than 10 years.
There will be some excellent handouts as well as door prizes at this informational meeting. Call the Great Bend Senior Center for additional information.
