Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! This coming week we have our regular 10:30 a.m. Children’s events, starting with Reading to Luna on Monday, followed by Whale Tale and Coral Reef Readers Story Times this Tuesday, and the next session of our We Grow Corn Series on Thursday. Wednesday we have another special guest coming. The Exploration Place of Wichita will take us deep into the ocean, where animals create their own light and transform sunlight into bioluminescence and biofluorescence. Children of all ages will analyze how organisms can transform light into many colors before creating their own light source to take home with them at the end of the presentation.
Teens will be keeping busy with events every day this next week! We’re starting on Monday at 4 p.m. with our July Upcycle It! program. We’ll be turning old jeans into Newspaper Denim Totes. Tuesday at 3 p.m. is our next Summer Self-Care Session with Shanna Long from the Center for Counseling and Consultation. Shanna will lead us through routines that encourage us to live intentionally. On Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. Exploration Place will be hosting a special program just for teens. Register now to get the chance to learn firsthand about shark anatomy during this Science on the Go presentation, and dissect a shark yourself! Those interested must register soon using the code @gbshark in the Remind app or visiting remind.com/join/gbshark. You can also text the code to 81010 (standard message rates apply). Join us for our final Casual Game Friday of the summer from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. This time we’re playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Race up a snowy mountain, down by the seaside, or even through Bowser’s castle as you watch out for obstacles and tricks from other players and push your way to first place.
Teens and adults can join us Thursday night at 5:30 for Adult & Teen Create! Turn an old book into a piece of art as we fold the pages to look like a beautiful mermaid.
For adults, we will have our regular events like Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. and Crochet Club on Thursday at 4 p.m. In addition to these programs, we will also be having a special event hosted at Dry Lake Brewing. Put on your thinking caps and get ready to test your oceanic knowledge as we quiz you on everything from the Titanic to the Bermuda Triangle! You can register your trivia team starting now on our website or show up a bit early on the day of to register your team. Individuals can be a team, so don’t be afraid to go it solo.
This is your last week to participate in our Captain Hook Treasure Hunt. Start at the library and follow the clues to find the treasure. The hunt ends Friday, July 22.
