Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! While we are still taking a small break to prepare for the fall, we do still have one teen program this week.

The Teen Manga and Anime Club will be meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 17. We will be watching the movie The Princess & the Pilot. The story takes place during a seemingly unending war between the Levamme Empire and the Amatsukami Imperium, until the Prince of the Levamme Empire declares his love for Juana del Moral of the Amatsukami Imperium and vows to end the war in one year, so they can marry. But the Amatsukami won’t stand for this and target Juana. To save her life and bring the prince his bride, the San Maltilia Air Force employs a mercenary to fly Juana to the prince in secret.

We will have free popcorn, and teens will have the chance to pick up next month’s manga, “One Piece,” after the movie.

Speaking of manga, hoopla, our free digital platform, has recently added a ton of manga to its collection. In addition to our large physical manga collection, this is a great way to read manga or try out the medium. One of the fun things that hoopla has is a manga version of many Disney movies and characters, such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Tangled,” and “Peter Pan.” You can even catch up with Stitch and a samurai as they venture through Feudal Japan. I think these are a fun new way to experience these classic stories, and the artwork is always very fun.

With hoopla, you can check out up to four manga per month and up to 25 at the library at a time. Considering a series like “One Piece” has over 90 volumes and is still going strong, having the additional items out at a time is nice. And, yes, we have every volume of “One Piece” if you want to take on that challenge.
