Gerry Hildebrand speaks to the Master Family Farmer Group at Larabee Library.

By Gerry Hildebrand, Denise Dickson, & Sandy Gere

We had a great day Monday afternoon, April 8, sharing our library with the Master Kansas Farm Family tour, Discover Kansas. This great group of 40 toured Stafford County and Kim Fritzemeier documented the places they visited on her blog https://kimscountyline.blogspot.com/. Take time to go to her blog and see some of what Stafford County has to offer.  It was a great day for the people on the tour and we were grateful that Kim included our spot in Stafford County.

Wednesday afternoon Baley Doggett, Ag Specialist of 21st Central Extension, gave a talk and demonstration on container gardening. We had a group of 13 listening to her advice and they were able to take home seeds that they had planted and a large container to start their garden. Thank you Baley, for bringing the workshop to the library.

We have booked Exploration Place to come to the library and share “Adventure” in the library. It looks like June 18th in the morning they will have an informative and fun lesson on taking care of your mouth and teeth taught by Delta Dental. They will talk about going to the dentist and have some lessons on taste buds that should be fun.

This time will be for 3-7 year-olds. In the afternoon of the 18th, ages 6-13 can come and participate in six adventure stations to learn about the world around them. Parents, grandparents, teachers inform your kids of this fun opportunity from Exploration Place and save the date.

Recommended reading

“Lilac Girls” by Martha Hall Kelly is a book we have in our library that is a historical fiction about three young ladies from Poland and how World War II affected their lives. It is based on true stories of the three ladies and their lives before, during and after the war and how their lives intertwined. It is part of a series that I plan to continue on The Kansas Library Card.

“The Inheritance (Secrets of the Shetlands Book #1)” by Michael Phillips is a book in our rotating collection that was so good it made me use Interlibrary Loan to read the rest of the trilogy.  This story takes place on a little island at the furthest part of Scotland during the time a family discovers many surprises after the death of the island’s Laird.

I am currently reading a book from our rotating library by Tracie Peterson. “In the Shadow of Denali” is the first in her trilogy, “In the Heart of Alaska”.  The other two books I will be using The Kansas Library Card to read.
