Introducing the Tween Scene and TeenBookCrate
The Book Nook
Book Nook.jpg

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Today I’d like to talk about some upcoming tween- and teen-focused programs, the first of which is our fall semester editions of TeenBookCrate.

TeenBookCrate is a book subscription box without the fee! Teens grades 6-12 can sign up to receive a themed reading and activity box. The first box is available this October, featuring the theme “Colors of Fall.” Inside each box is a library book, a feedback card, and themed goodies and activities. Everyone who gets a box is expected to read the included library book and fill out the feedback card (a valid library card in good standing required). Return the box, the book, and the feedback card by the due date determined at checkout, and the rest of the goodies are yours to keep!

We are offering a limited amount of boxes, so reserve yours by signing up between Monday, Sept. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 8, on our website at greatbendpl.info/teens.

One of our newest activities this fall is a series meant to bridge the gap between older kids and teens. We know we have some tweens who feel they are too old for story time but are still a bit too young to be in the Teen Spot. In response, we are introducing Tween Scene, a time when those in grades 4-6 can get a taste of teen programming alongside others their age. They will get the chance to try out a different teen event once every month from September to November. The first of these events starts on Monday at 4 p.m. with a tween version of our Builders, Assemble! program. Work as a team to create elaborate chain reactions with Kinetic Dominoes using arcs, spinners, bridges, and more!

This semester alongside our usual craft kits, we will be offering Teen Takeout bundles for teens grades 6-12. These kits include the ingredients needed to make a tasty treat! This month’s recipe is Bubble Tea, which will be available starting next Friday, Sept. 30. Just like the Take & Make kits, these are first come, first served, so be sure to grab one before they’re gone!
