Justice for Baby Roston, by Robert Anderson Sr.

Former Barton County resident Robert Anderson Sr., who lived in Ellinwood and practiced law there from 1984-1988 and from 1991-2016, has written a book about his last murder trial. He now lives in Biloxi, Mississippi.

His book, “Justice for Baby Roston,” is about Anderson’s last murder trial, which was held in the Hodgeman County District Court, Jetmore, in late November 2016, and concluded on December 9, 2016.

“One of the universal caveats of life is that there is nothing more painful to parents than the death of their child,” Anderson writes. “A few parents who suffer the loss of a baby from an unexplained and untimely death are also falsely accused each year of causing their child’s death from neglect or child abuse.”

“Justice for Baby Roston” discusses the traumatic birth, short life, and tragic death of Roston Hanson and the unjust prosecution of Roston’s father, Kody Hanson, on charges of felony child abuse and murder, Anderson said. “The book highlights law enforcement investigators’ rush to judgment to clear a death case and charge a parent without having the final results of the autopsy or conducting a complete criminal investigation or considering all possible causes for Roston Hanson’s skull fracture, found for the first time by a CT Scan taken on April 7, 2015, when Roston was 76 days old.”

At the conclusion of his book, Anderson makes 18 specific recommendations on how law enforcement investigators and their supervisors, medical personnel, forensic pathologists, coroners, prosecutors, and state legislatures can help keep parents of being falsely accused of neglect and child abuse in an unexplained and untimely death of a baby under similar circumstances.
