Hoisington Public Library announces a new online book club for Hoisington Middle School students, beginning 1-2 p.m. on March 6. Come by or call the library to sign up and to receive a link! The group will meet once per month the first Saturday. We hope that sometime in the future, the club will be able to meet in person.

The Book Club will be hosted by our Saturday library assistant Samantha Colson. She is a senior at Hoisington High School and has been working at the library since September.

Also assisting at the Book Club will be Stacy Moore, our new children’s librarian. Stacy is a lifetime resident of Hoisington and has been working at the library since December. The book will be “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis. After the first meeting, students will have a role in choosing the book for the next month.

The purpose of the club is to provide an activity for kids who love to read. We have worked very hard enhancing our YA book section, and now have many graphic novels which are the comic books of today, and have added hundreds of new YA and Fantasy books over the last year.

Tell your children and grandchildren!

To see the books available online, go to www.hoisington.catalog.ckls.org. You can also order the books through interlibrary loan with your library card and receive an email notification when they are here.

Thanks to Janet Deines for the new series of books, “The Secrets of Wayfarers Inn,” for the library. These books are a part of the Guideposts series of books clean reads.

We have many new YA books. Here are a few:

Fable - Adrienne Young. Seventeen-year-old Fable joins the young, motley crew of the Marigold to escape the island where her father abandoned her, but she quickly realizes life off the island is more dangerous than she imaged.

Rhythms of War - Brandon Sanderson. After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar’s crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move. Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone - Liani Taylor. Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real and she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands.”
