Our theme this week is HOME AS LAND. We’re using the American Cinquain as our hiking boots—5 lines whose 22 syllables are arranged in this way:  2, 4, 6, 8, 2.
In this frigid time, Kansans look toward Spring, and so do our poets. Kimberly Bezdek is a music enthusiast, an animal lover, a keychain hoarder, and a high school student in Olathe. Her poem is a complete piece, fully rendered on the head of a pin.

Breathe in,
Fertile soil,
The crops of love and loss,
Where love blooms and where death whispers,
Make life.

is a retired doctor who currently teaches bioethics and lives with her husband and two children in Spring Hill. I like the sounds and rhythms she delivers here.

Leader,
bait, tackle, rod.
Farm pond after Spring thaw,
A bite! Hook set, reeling it in—
Dinner.
