Season’s Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library.
Can you believe the first day of winter was this week? We wish everyone in our community a happy, warm, and safe Holiday Season. We will have a short week next week since we will be closed this Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Dec. 26, and Saturday, Dec. 31-Jan. 2. Make sure to come in and grab a few new items to get you through our next long weekend.
The Crochet Club sends this reminder of its Warmth for Winter Charity Event. We have gotten so much support from our community and we just wanted to reach out and thank everyone who has been helping, through donation of supplies, donation of their time, and donation of finished items. Our goal this season is to assist the Hungry Hearts Soup Kitchen and any individual that needs a little extra warmth this winter. It has been reported that the soup kitchen feeds between 50-70 people every day. This number is a mixture of children and adults. The Crochet Club would love to be able to donate a hat, scarf, and pair of gloves for every individual that relies on the soup kitchen as well as keep our donation boxes at the Library filled.
Unfortunately we are far beneath that goal and would like to ask our community for any donations of yarn, crochet hooks, store bought or handmade hats, scarves, gloves, and gallon size Ziploc bags. This is our first year doing this Charity Event and it is going on until Tuesday Jan. 31, but we would also like to point out that we have cold weather now and the sooner we can reach our goal and help out those who are in need. The sooner we can plan for an even larger event next year so that we can help out even more people.
The club would like to take this time to thank all of the Library and CKLS staffers who have helped out with this event by learning or re-learning how to crochet and by donating much needed items. The Crochet Club offers a very special thanks to Eileen Huslig, Imogene Christiansen, and Girl Scout Troop 20210 for their wonderful donations of yarn, hats, and scarves.
