A DIFFERENT MARVEL UNIVERSE The comic character Deadpool is a fan favorite with his witty comments, violent nature and self-awareness.
Fans lost their minds when filmmakers sewed the mutant's mouth shut in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Ever since that debacle, fans have been begging for a Deadpool movie more in line with the comments. Well, they've now got it and then some.
It was announced several months back that "Deadpool" would receive an R rating, but is it borderline or over the top? Without a doubt kids across the country are begging their parents to see this new superhero flick. Odds are most parents don't know what exactly is in the film. That's what we're here for, to educate parents and make kids across this great land angry with me.
Maybe as an adult you're interested in the film but not sure if the content is really up your alley, well I'm here for you too.
I'm not here to tell you whether the film was any good or worth seeing, but rather what you can expect to find in it so you can decide if it's for you or for your kids.
We'll get into some specifics, but suffice it to say the filmmakers did everything in their power to make sure this got an R rating. For the most part, you name it and "Deadpool" has got it.
Violence
This shouldn't come as a surprise, but "Deadpool" is violent and graphic. Deadpool isn't like Batman or Spider-Man where they try to catch the bad guy and send him to jail. Rather Deadpool like to pull them limb from limb and then either shoot the bad guy in the head or just lop it off with one of his katanas.
Not only does Deadpool like to destroy his enemies, but he likes to do it on screen. There is plenty of blood, gore and violence to really go around.
Language
Deadpool is known as The Merc with a Mouth, and he earns that nickname here. Along with all of his insults and witty banter, he likes to slip in all the dirty words in the book and a few that aren't even in there. The movie definitely goes for the shock factor with the dialogue, and I know I wasn't the only one "shocked" a time or two in the theater.
The language is harsh and constant throughout the movie.
Sexiness
Walking into the theater I knew that "Deadpool" was going to be very violent with lots of language, but the crass extremely crass jokes and nudity caught me a little off guard.
The film includes full-frontal male and female nudity, a constant barrage of raunchy sex-related jokes and an extended sex scene that lasts several minutes and contains a few things I'm not totally comfortable mentioning here.
Remember when I said "name it and 'Deadpool' has go it"? Well, that applies in this category. Just in case dismembered bodies, decapitations and an insane amount of F bombs didn't secure the R rating for "Deadpool," the filmmakers figured they'd cover all their bases and throw in the sex aspect as well.
Conclusion
Look, I'm not you and I'm not your kids' parent, but I know that I wouldn't send my kids to see "Deadpool." Granted they are 5, 2, and in the womb, but even if they were 15, 12, and out of the womb, I still wouldn't send them.
This is a film intended for an adult audience and not even the entire adult audience. If you are squeamish or thought that the infamous scene in "Titanic" was a little racy, then this is not the film to see this weekend.
"Deadpool" received an official R rating from the MPAA for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.
I'd like to reiterate, I am not here to tell you what you should and should not let your kids see or what you yourself should see. Rather I'm here to let you know what you can expect to see in "Deadpool" and you can make a decision for yourself.
