National Library Card Sign-up Month is almost over. Don’t forget to celebrate with us by coming in to replace lost or damaged library cards before the month is out. So, if you lost your card or it barely works anymore, come on down and we’ll issue you a new one for free! The Children’s Department is also doing a scavenger hunt till the end of this month where kids can find lost library cards around the library for a reward.

Today (Sept. 28) Luna will be here at 4 p.m. to hear stories, and the Crochet Club meets at 4 p.m. as well. Later at 5:30 p.m. we have a special event to celebrate Banned Books Week. Join us to learn why we celebrate our freedom to choose what we read! Play a few rounds of Banned Books Trivia and learn about the dangers of censorship from our special guest speaker, our director, Maribeth.

Monday is a new month already, and a new month means a new Spice of the Month! Come get yours before it’s gone. Monday afternoon get ready for Tween Scene. This month we will be trying out the teen program Casual Game Day. Starting at 4 pm Tweens grades 3rd-5th can come to the teen spot for a fun afternoon of gaming.

On Tuesday we will start the day off with Story Time at 10:30 am, followed closely by Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. Then at 5:30 p.m. our first Preptober and NaNoWriMo interest meeting. Learn about and gear up for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the yearly challenge for writers of all ages across the whole country to work on their novels for the entire month of November. This meeting is a great time to learn about next month’s activities and to help you learn the best practices to prep and make November a successful and productive month.

Lastly, next Thursday Luna will be here at 4 p.m. to hear stories, and the Crochet Club meets at 4 p.m. as well. Later at 6 p.m. join us for our latest cooking class with Lisa. This time she will teach us about air fryers. Whether you are already an air-fryer fan or if you are still unsure about these new miracle machines this is a great class for you. Then after you’ve learned all about air fryers why not head downstairs to watch a movie with the Silver Screen Society? This month in honor of the spooky season we will be watching a movie about U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his new partner (Mark Ruffalo) who are called to Ashecliffe Hospital, a fortress-like insane asylum located on a remote, windswept island. A murderess patient has seemingly vanished from a locked room, and there are hints of terrible deeds committed within the hospital walls. As the investigation deepens, Teddy realizes he will have to confront his own dark fears if he hopes to make it off the island alive. Join us at 7 for a great film fun discussion and of course free popcorn!
