Women for Kansas Barton County will present the program “Taxes and Government Spending - How Does Kansas Compare?” with guest speaker Nancy McCarthy-Snyder, on Sunday, March 17. The free program will begin at 2 p.m. in the Learned Resource Center (library) Cavanaugh Room at Barton Community College, 245 NE 30 Road.

If your mind goes on hold when the Kansas state budget is discussed, this presentation is for you, sponsors said. McCarthy-Snyder is prepared to demystify state budget numbers.

A retired Wichita State University faculty member, McCarthy-Snyder held the position of Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research from 2004-2007, where she was responsible for University re-accreditation, academic planning and budgeting. From 2010-2016, she was a member of the Kansas Consensus Revenue Estimating Group, responsible for the official state revenue estimates in the state budget.

Her graduate research focused on human services and public finance, including evaluations of Kansas welfare reform programs; nonprofit governance and financial management; school finance; and a review of privatization of the Kansas child welfare system. As a professor, McCarthy-Snyder taught courses on public sector economics, state and local government budgeting, statistics, and nonprofit management.
