The Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi closed out the sorority year with a trip to Hays for lunch at Professors, followed by a meeting and dessert at member Susan Coulson’s house. The new chapter year will begin in September.
The officers for 2024-2025 were installed. They are: President Jeri Brozek, Vice President Susan Brown, Treasurer Rosie Luthi and Secretary Brenda Black. The ritual for the Torchbearer Degree (the highest degree) was held for Janis Link.
Both programs for May had a patriotic theme. Susan Coulson shared interesting facts about the soldiers who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It has been guarded 24/7 by an elite military group since 1930. The Sentinels take 21 steps, pause for 21 seconds and return, continuously, during each 30-minute shift. The Guards’ requirements are strict and their lifestyle very restrictive. 864 military personnel (including six women) have served as Sentinels in its 94-year history.
Brenda Black spoke about the In Memory program dedicated to veterans who served in Vietnam and died sometime later. Her husband Scotty will be recognized this summer at the ceremony on the site of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. She followed with information about Arlington National Cemetery.
