The Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi began this sorority year with a trip to Hays for lunch at Thirsty’s followed by a meeting at Susan Coulson’s house.
The Service Committee is considering ideas for a service project. Members will continue the Weekend Backpack Fruit project for USD 428 starting in October.
Ways and Means member Judy Krebaum received a request for the Chapter’ assistance at a wedding reception in February.
Members enjoyed the salad supper with Xi Delta Upsilon celebrating Beginning Day. There was a plan to go to Abilene for a ride on the Flint Hills Express train, but the organization had problems staffing volunteers for the chosen date.
After she and her sisters visited their nephew who teaches at West Point, Brenda Black offered a program on the history of United States Military Academy West Point. In 1802 the Academy was initially founded by President Thomas Jefferson to train officers for the rapidly expanding army. A few of the many notable graduates were Generals Custer, Pershing, McArthur and Patton. Two presidents graduated from West Point-Ulysses Grant and Dwight Eisenhower. Today there are over 4,000 students enrolled; 20% of them women.
