Preceptor Pi recalls 1940s sorority events

COURTESY PHOTO Brenda Black was honored as Preceptor Pi’s 2022 Valentine Queen. Brenda has been a member of Beta Signs Phi since 1984 and is currently serving the chapter as Recording Secretary. Brenda is also always willing to assist the chapter with the Reception Sisters fundraising events.

Preceptor Pi, Beta Sigma Phi, met on Feb. 1 at the Farmers Bank & Trust Meeting Room. Rosie Luthi gave the Beta Brief from The Torch highlighting 1948-49 moments from Beta Sigma Phi History featuring “Come as You Are Parties” and an intra-island convention in Hawaii.  

Members donated fruit at both February meetings for the ongoing project for USD 428 students. Member Janis Link reported our fruit project was acknowledged at a recent church service at the First United Methodist Church.

Karen Reif presented the program – a Kansas Trivia Quiz in celebration of the recent Kansas Day.    

On Feb. 15, the chapter met at Farmers Bank & Trust Meeting Room.  Prior to the meeting, members met at The Page for the chapter’s Valentine luncheon.  

Rosie Luthi gave the Beta Brief. She read another article from The Torch, “Sharing Moments from BSP History”, featuring Miss West Texas in 1940 and a New York chapter’s fashion show in 1941.  

Susan Brown announced the chapter’s Valentine Queen. Brenda Black, Recording Secretary, was honored as the queen for 2022.  

The program, “Kansas Inventors”, was presented by Susan Brown. Some of the Kansas inventors/inventions mentioned were the first helicopter, telephone direct dial, autopilot, and the founders of Pizza Hut, White Castle and Colemen.  

The next meeting of Preceptor Pi will be at 2 p.m., March 1 at the Farmers Bank & Trust Meeting Room. Prior to the meeting ,at 1:30 p.m., chapter members will meet at the High Rise for a tour of progress on the recent remodeling project.
