At the recent Progress Club meeting, members heard Marissa Woodmansee, director of Juvenile Services, speak on human trafficking.

Woodmansee discussed the impact social media has on young people. Demands, threats, coercion and false promises are techniques used to trap victims. This age-old problem has been around a long time and now we call it “human trafficking,” a term that makes us uncomfortable. Parents need to be informed and educated. Apps on the cell phone may appear to be innocent, however, they can be deceiving. Parents are encouraged to know what is on their child’s phone.
