The Progress Club met Oct. l, beginning the new year for the club. The program was given by Charles Perkins of the IT

department at Barton Community College on Information Technology. His topic was The Dark Web and the Deep Web, the former being a place we do not want our children and grandchildren to go. He shared some key words that would alert parents they need to have a talk with their children.

Accounts that the public does not have access to are known as the Deep Web. This would be hospitals, educational institutions and banks, for example. These are not searchable.

Hackers are everywhere and everyone’s computer is vulnerable to hacking. His advice is to shut down the computer when not in use. A hacker will use your computer for illegal activity and you will not know it.
