LARNED — The Quilting Bees guild met on Aug. 18. President Ann Hicks announced that the first meeting of each month members may bring new fabric, quilting books, kits, and other related sewing and quilting items and may offer them for sale. Mary Weber announced that she will offer a vinyl project bag for a program. Merlene Baird announced that daughter Gina Janes of Hannibal, Mo., grand opening of her quilt store featuring long arm quilting, batting, and consignment quilt items. Ann Hicks displayed a unique way of showcasing fabric strips on various paper backing (coffee filters etc.) to applique them on a banner showcasing colleges and universities.
Show and Tell participates were: Alice Clapsaddle, 4 small wall hangings of vintage quilted Sunbonnet Sue blocks; Becky Obermiller, multi-colored quilt made in a class and the 2018 block of the month from Bossy Sisters using forest green/purple/lavender fabrics.
The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Larned. Individuals interested in quilting, sewing and handwork may call the church for further information at 620-285-6033. All are welcome to attend.
