LARNED – After not meeting for six months, the Quilting Bees guild, led by President Ann Hicks, convened on Tuesday, May 4, in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Larned. Roll call was answered by “What I’ve finished in the last year.”
A thank you was read from Elaine Voss of the Pawnee County Fair Board. The guild agreed to begin meeting with only one meeting on the third Tuesday of each month and no dues for the year but donations accepted. In addition, the guild voted to give three awards to the 4-H Pawnee County Fair: Open class quilt-Best of Show, 4-H quilt project-Best of Show, and open class Grand Champion-quilt project.
Announcements included fabric and magazine give away, and the new 12 ½ inch block contest offered through the Extension office (fabric and directions available at office for $5). Contest prizes are first prize-$60, second prize- $40, third prize-$20. Anyone may enter the contest.
Show and Tell participants were: Becky Obermiller, blocks for the Edwards County Fair; Diane Schultz, cloth bag won from Sew into Quilts; and Ann Hicks, project bag, various notions, four quilts, Lacrosse blue and yellow block of the month, quilt started by mother edged in brown and yellow, and a tied quilt made from feed sacks, first project by The Quilting Bees.
The program was presented by Mary Weber on Crazier Eights Playbook using templates.
The next meeting will be at 6 pm on June 15 with program presented by Mary Weber on a zipper pouch. Those wishing to participate may bring a quilted place mat and 14-inch zipper. For further information, call the church office at 620-285-6033.
