LARNED — The Quilting Bee guild met on May 18 at the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall for the monthly meeting chaired by Janell Barton. Connie Dunyan was welcomed as a guest. The former Quilting Bees have changed their name to the Quilting Bees Creative Ideas, which will encompass more than just quilting. Merlene Baird, Regent of the local DAR group, highlighted the Bicentennial History of the Santa Fe Trail 1821-1880 by announcing the Kansas Daughters of the American Revolution “Quilts of the Santa Fe Trail” exhibit from May 27 through Sept. 9. at the Santa Fe Trail Center.
Additional business included a change in awards for the 4-H Pawnee County Fair as Best of Show, open class quilting, and Grand Champion of the 4-H Division in Fiber Arts and includes monetary prizes. The basket raffle was won by Virginia Bauer who will provide the basket raffle for the June 21 meeting at 6 p.m. Connie Dunyan demonstrated Gouache Jell Paint. Show and Tell participants were Becky Obermiller and Karen Hadley, woven star ornaments; Virginia Bauer, large quilt in jewel tones on black; and Ann Zielke, panel for husband.
