Riley teacher Casey Hatzenbuehler chosen for Country Music Teacher Classroom Initiative

Casey Hatzenbuehler, Great Bend, has been chosen to be a recipient of a new program called the Country Music Teacher Classroom Initiative. The Country Music Teacher Classroom Initiative (CMTCI) is designed to provide teachers with classroom supplies and project funds across the United States.

Teachers create a wish list of desired items for their classroom and project materials needed throughout the year. This list is distributed weekly on social media as part of country musician Jake Gill’s ongoing initiative to serve children and now teachers throughout the U.S. and the world. Items can be purchased by anyone in the world and delivered directly to the selected teacher.

Mrs. Hatzenbuehler is a third-grade teacher at Riley Elementary.

“I love to teach because I love having a job that is all about caring,” she wrote in response to being nominated by parents. “I get to care about my kids everyday and in so many ways! Caring has always been one of my superpowers and here I get to use it in the best ways possible. I care about how the students talk to and treat others. I also get to care about how they can have their best chance at learning. I get to care about how to change things to make them better each day. Beyond the classroom I also care about how much sleep they are getting, their health and how they are doing. So many of our kids have a trauma background or they are living in poverty. Research says that it only takes one caring adult in a child’s life to counterbalance the effects of that trauma. I strive everyday to be that caring adult. I love to problem solve and figure out the best ways to try and reach each kid in my room everyday.”

Jake Gill, a seven-year member of the Country Music Association founded the CMTCI after a series of life changing events in the early spring of 2020. It is his hope that teachers and classrooms all over the world can benefit from this program.
