With the first 8 week session of the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy workshop in the books it is time to sign up for session number 2. I have loved every Tuesday and Thursday morning as our group of seventeen gained strength and improved balance through the one hour exercise routine. It is definitely a slow progression, with wrist and ankle weights added only after the first three weeks. Repetitions increase slowly as well so that participants feel good about their accomplishments.
The neat thing I have noticed is the comradery of class participants for other class members. Many knew each other but as the weeks continued I have noticed true friendship and concern toward others has evolved. Many from the first session plan to continue but there will be a few openings for those who want to get started. The class is evidence based and is designed to increase aging adult’s access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.
Session 2 will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 7th and ending on July 28th. Class time will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Activity Center, 2715 18th Street. The cost is $20. Call me at (620)793-1910, stop by 1800 12th Street, or e-mail me at dkrug@ksu.edu to register.
