The Sterling College Music Department is making Halloween a week-long celebration this year. First, last Sunday’s band concert was entitled “Songs That Go Bump In The Night.” Next up is “Tricks or Treats: A Spooky-ish Choral Concert” which will be presented at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Upper Wilson Hall on the Sterling College campus.

Both Sterling College Choir and the select vocal music ensemble Highland Singers will perform a mixture of popular, choral, classical and show tunes. Marisa Callan directs both groups and accompanies Highland Singers while music faculty member Dr. Christie George accompanies choir.

The concert will include popular and familiar tunes from notable Hollywood films: “I Put A Spell on You” from the Disney movie “Hocus Pocus” as well as “Double Trouble” from Harry Potter.

“In the Sorcerer’s Hall” will combine a trio of classic tunes and will provide all necessary goosebumps and even a chuckle or two. The medley was composed by John Jacobson and Audrey Snyder who wrote original lyrics which combines with these famous melodies: Gounod’s “Funeral March of a Marionette,” ”In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Grieg, and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Dukas.

Musical theater pieces will include songs from shows such as “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Sweeney Todd.” All-male and all-female performances will be featured in the line-up.

There is no admission charge for “Tricks or Treats: A Spooky-ish Choral Concert.”
